APEA Webinar Dec 2026 - EvalVisionAsia : Building respectful relationships with Indigenous communities as an evaluator

ONLINE

Many evaluators recognise the importance of engaging respectfully with Indigenous peoples but are unsure where to begin. Inspired by the principles of the Wolastoq Declaration on Indigenous Evaluation and the Asia Pacific Toolkit for Indigenous Evaluation, this seminar explores practical first steps for building meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities. Rather than focusing on methods or tools, the session emphasises listening, humility, reciprocity, and understanding local histories and contexts. Drawing on the experiences of Indigenous evaluators and trusted allies from the EvalIndigenous network, we will explore how respectful relationships are built over time, how to engage ethically with Indigenous communities, and when to lead, support, or step aside. The seminar offers practical guidance for evaluators seeking to develop culturally responsive practice grounded in trust, relational accountability, and mutual learning.
