Training: What difference did it make? An introduction to impact evaluations using a mixed-methods approach

Abu Dhabi Conference Hall B: Session Room 9 * Onsite

Why attend?

Ever wondered if what you're doing is really making a difference? Donors and managers increasingly want to know. Get insights on quantitative and qualitative methods that will help you understand your project's impacts on biodiversity and livelihoods, through this introduction to mixed-methods impact evaluation. Sign up for this session

Session Description

By definition, impact evaluations use counterfactuals, i.e., what would have happened in the absence of the project or intervention. But in data-limited and resource-constrained settings, these counterfactuals may be difficult to come by. Fortunately, several options exist to suit your situation. This session will introduce a framework to help you identify appropriate impact evaluation design and methods for the results you want to measure (e.g. increase in wildlife population, decrease in poaching behavior, scaling up of policies). Following a brief presentation of concrete applications in GEF projects, you and fellow participants are invited to identify and discuss the appropriate design selection criteria and potential method(s) to use under certain conditions, using your own project examples. [Facilitator: Global Environment Facility Independent Evaluation Office (GEF IEO)]

Speaker

JENEEN GARCIA : SENIOR EVALUATION OFFICER, GEF IEO
