Marie Laure ESSIS is an Infectiologist and Public Health Physician, specializing in Monitoring and Evaluation and in Planning and Management of Health Programs and Services. She is a research physician at the Institut National de Santé Publique (INSP) in Abidjan and Head of the Monitoring and Evaluation Department. She is also an associate researcher at the Côte d'Ivoire Reproductive Health Research Unit. She holds a Doctorate in Medicine from the Université Félix Houphouët Boigny in Abidjan and a Master's degree in Planning and Management of Health Programs and Services from the Institut Africain de Santé Publique (IASP) in Ouagadougou, and is currently completing a PhD in Planning at the Université Saint Thomas d'Aquin in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso).
Marie Laure ESSIS's thesis project was entitled “Analysis of the emergence, implementation and performance of monitoring and evaluation systems in four national programs addressing maternal and child health in Côte d'Ivoire”.
As part of her thesis, she coordinated and supervised the collection of qualitative data, from tool design to data collection and analysis, with the production of scientific articles. She also coordinated the qualitative component of several mixed-type surveys on family planning, followed by scientific publications in national and international peer-reviewed journals.
She is very familiar with the national health system and also has experience in the evaluation of health interventions, with a mastery of data analysis methods. She has over 10 years' experience in research and is co-author of some twenty articles in peer-reviewed national and international journals, the fruit of sub-regional (Burkina Faso, Mauritania, Chad, Niger) and international (USA) collaboration.
She also coordinated and facilitated a sub-regional M&E training seminar for 4 years> This experience was documented in an article published in an international peer-reviewed journal.
