Agora Consulting was founded by Tewelde Gebremiam, an Ethiopian researcher and strategic advisor with over ten years of experience. Tewelde established Agora with the aim of combining international standards of quality research with his local and contextualized knowledge, and access. The Agora founder has worked with Altai Consulting on many monitoring and research projects since 2020. Tewelde led a research team for an Atmospheric analysis of the ongoing conflict in Tigray for the OTI/USAID; researching and reporting for the FCDO Ethiopia Migration Programme since May 2020; Renewable Energy Options for the World Bank and context assessment of Lalibela town for the French Development Agency. Recently, Agora is coordinating a baseline survey on the Productive Safety Net Programme (PSNP) in Tigray for the World Bank and the Agora’s director involved on the Third-Party Monitoring of peacebuilding projects of the EU in Ethiopia.
Tewelde was an assistant professor at the Department of Gender and Development Studies, at the University of Gondar, Ethiopia after graduating MSc from the University of Antwerp, Belgium in 2016. In addition to teaching courses, he has been involved in community and consultancy services; as investigator and co-investigator in different research on migration, governances, climate change and gender, and political representation; led a project and project evaluations; and provided different training to governmental and non-governmental organizations and at different universities in Ethiopia.
