Researcher/Global Research and Evaluation Senior Officer

Chanbona currently serves as the Global Regional & Evaluation Senior Officer under the Research and Evaluation sub-team, within Save the Children’s Global Evidence and Learning Team. With over two decades of experience in the development sector, he has dedicated his career to performance measurement and the evaluation of development interventions across diverse sectors. His expertise spans Education, Multipurpose Cash Assistance, Health and Nutrition, Food Security and Livelihood, WASH, Agricultural Value Chain Development, Social Accountability, and Humanitarian Assistance. He has worked with several renowned organizations, including World Vision International, Caritas Cambodia, International Development Enterprises, Mekong Institute, Family Health International 360, and Save the Children International, contributing significantly to impactful programs and evidence-based solutions that address pressing global challenges.

He leads Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) initiatives across a wide range of technical areas, including diagnosing the quality of MEL systems, strengthening local capacity, integrating data systems, designing and implementing learning agendas, and managing both quantitative and qualitative data collection processes. He is also skilled in data management, utilization, visualization, and interpretation, as well as project management. Beyond his technical expertise, he is a collaborative team player with a strong commitment to mentoring. His efforts have fostered successful MEL communities of practice, providing technical support and mentorship to NGO implementing partners in the field.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of Antwerp, Belgium, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics. Before joining Save the Children International, he worked as a MEL Consultant and Technical Advisor for several prominent NGOs, including Caritas Cambodia, World Vision Thailand Foundation, Oxfam Belgium, and Friends International, where he provided strategic guidance and implemented impactful MEL frameworks.
